2.Which advertisers have used shock tactics lately and why are they shocking?

Great Ormond Street Hospital - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BpphGTnt42c - They use images of poorly children who are in hospital for special treatment and need money to afford those specialist treatments and it persuades people to want to donate money towards the treatment for them.

Unicef - https://youtu.be/Qqv1dxcIM6E - They include refugee children and have images in the background of what they had to go through in order to get to a safe place and this puts the audience in a position where they want to donate money to help the children have a safe place to stay.

Water Aid - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fujgx5sN23I -They go outside the country to places which lack enough water such as Ethiopia and should images of children having to walk miles to collect water (that is contaminated for they have no choice) because they need it to survive.

3.Find an advert whereby you can justify Maslow's Hierarchy of needs in play

It's an advert for recruiting U.S. Marines.
This advert shows self-actualisation. This advert is showing that the U.S. Marines only wants people who are able to live up to their highest potential and pushing others to do the same.  This advert fits the self-actualization category because it is expressing people to be the best they can be and then they will feel self-fulfilment.

4.Write Down as many stereotypes found in advertising as you can, try to link them to actual campaigns
  • Slim, Curvy women are used to model clothing for fashion companies e.g. Prettylittlething.com - they are used for these types of adverts to send an indirect message to young girls, that these are the type of people they should aspire to be and dress like them so that you can fit into society.
  • White women are used for advertising make-up for famous make up brands. Max Factor-  To show that white women are beautiful and that every woman of every race should want to look and be like them and that make-up is a necessity.
  • White women are used for advertising hair products - To show that their type of hair is best suited to have in society and that every woman should change their to be like theirs.
  • Older women are used to advertise hair dying products which cover grey hairs and also used to advertise anti-ageing products - To make them feel like if they use these products they will fit into society and will be accepted by the younger generations.
 5.Find an example of intertextuality in an advert
The company Specsavers uses intertextuality for their adverts.

6.Find as many different uses for music in adverts as you can.
  • Music can be used for entertainment purposes - new TV shows
  • Used to shock people- fast-pace music to build tension an slow-pace music e.g. classical music to put the audience in an emotional position. used in adverts for charities e.g. Water Aid and Barnardos
  • To advertise artists new music that they are yet to release - Spotify
  • To promote companies new products - e.g. phones -Samsung and Headphones- Beats
7.Find an example of an elite person in current advertising campaign

By using George Clooney an actor, businessman, activist and philanthropist, the company are trying persuade people to drink their coffee and they'll feel like they're having the same coffee that he drinks.

8.Find examples of 'reward and punishment' persuasion in current campaigns
Apple - they make their adverts look cool and show cool features of the products e.g. IPhone- siri , 3D touch and 4k videos to make the audience feel like it is the phone they must get as it has all of these features which their own phones may not have but then if they don't get it they'll not be accepted into society if they don't have.
