Young people, mainly those of ethnic minority are being noticed because of their achievements. E.G. being accepted into the top universities, becoming successful, being heroic.

Negative representations of Age in the Media
Young people are viewed negatively in the media either through what happens in society or in TV shows.
society- crime, unemployment, education
TV- shows like Big Brother and Love Island
In society, young people are viewed negatively in the media because of the increase in crime. Whenever there is a stabbing, shooting or theft, it is always linked back to young people especially those of ethnic backgrounds who are either unemployed or working class and they are never linked back to middle class people.
Another issue that young people are linked back to is unemployment. There are many young people who are unemployed and the media view the unemployed in a negative way rather than unemployed people being viewed in a positive way. An example would be that unemployed young boys join gangs and make money through selling drugs and killing any innocent people. Another example would be that young girls get pregnant in order to get their own accommodation from the council and get money from the state.
Finally, young people are viewed by the media as lazy, unemployed and disruptive and these all link back to education. Those who are successful in education are praised whereas those who are not successful in education are not praised as much even though they have come along way and made it e.g. young people in the music industry. Others are classed as disruptive because they hang about their estates and shopping centres etc. making older residents feel unrelaxed and unsafe.
In TV shows, young people are used for game shows and reality shows like Big Brother and Love Island and they don't consider much older/elderly people for they may feel like they are not energetic enough or are not able to understand them and the young people will persuade more and more young people to join the TV shows in the future.

Elderly and Older people are underrepresented in TV. but then on the other hand upper/middle class elderly and older people are featured in television and film dramas as occupying high-status roles as world leaders, judges, politicians, experts and business executives. An example of an elderly person or older person occupying a high-status role would be Judge Judy. They might be asked to occupy those roles because they have more knowledge and experience within those roles are just suited for those roles based on their appearance.
