Oxfam and Wateraid charity adverts
Oxfam
Oxfam is an international confederation of 20 organisations working together with partners and local communities in more than 90 countries. The purpose of Oxfam is to help create lasting solutions to the injustice of poverty such as lack of water, children not being in education, unemployment etc. and have incorporated these issues in charity campaigns to highlight them to an audience so they can also participate in many ways to help them. Each charity advert is less than 2 minutes long which means the audience viewing it will be able to spare a few minutes of their time to watch it and by the adverts being a few minutes long, it means there will be a lot of information in it for the audience to take in and help the charity.
an advert for Oxfam
In this advert for Oxfam, at the beginning shows a mother living in a materially deprived area of Africa with her children having to travel far to fetch water for her and family to survive on. Then the clip goes on to show the well that Oxfam built along with the crops she was able to grow as a result of having fresh water. Clip carries on further to show the money that was made from the crops they grew and how the money made was spent on providing the children within that area an education.
In the advert, there was a mixture of close up and long shots to capture the emotions of the people in the advert living in those deprived areas to show the impact of living without those resources and the long shots were used to capture the surroundings which would place the audience in a position where they would be persuaded to donate money to the charity towards improvements in deprived areas of the world.
There is the use of narrative to tell the audience what the advert is about, the story of someone who has been affected by the issues they are trying to raise awareness about and ways to get in contact. The person narrating the advert repeats the word 'you' to make the audience feel like the have achieved something by donating money towards the charity to help the people who have been affected and that many more money can be helped every time the advert is seen.
Pictures are shown of a family before Oxfam helped them and used again towards the end to remind the audience that there are many more people out there suffering.
WaterAid
Water Aid is an international non-profit organisation that was set up in 1981 in response to the UN international Drinking water and Sanitation decade.
Their aim is to ensure access to improved sanitation, hygiene and safe drinking for millions of people who live in areas of the world which have a lack of those resources.
There adverts are short and straight to the point, similar to the adverts for Oxfam and use people's stories to highlight the situations of living in places which have the lack of resources.

At the beginning of the advert, the narrator introduces the young girl and tells her story because the charity is trying to highlight the ways people living in deprived areas of the world.
There is use of close up and long shots to show what is in the water that these people drink and bath in along the surroundings to place the audience in the position of donating money to the charity without having any doubts.
Unlike the Oxfam advert, WaterAid have incorporated text to highlight the key points for the audience so they can make a change to the way (Genet -the girl in the advert) and many others live.
Contains alot of content and context, the inclusion of the adverts themselves gives a good visual representation of what you are speaking about.
