Regions of the U.S: Northeast- New England, South-South Atlantic -Florida

Regions of South America: Brazilian Highlands, Amazon Basin.

What is National Identity?

National Identity is the term given to any country based on the things that they are associated with as whole. e.g. Tradition, culture and language.

Examples of Nations: United Kingdom, China, Australia, United States.

National and Regional Identity represented by the media

In the media, national and regional identities are represented in positive ways, the producers of movie don't include features of everyday life from those areas in the way they are seen today.

In the UK, TV and film producers show national and regional identity through reality shows. E.g. Made in Chelsea, TOWIE(The Only Way Is Essex), Geordie Shore, Big Brother.

The reality TV show 'Made in Chelsea' shows the national identity of England. The cast consists of young people who are in their early- late twenties, they come from middle class backgrounds and who are living on the money they've either inherited from their parents or continuing to run businesses which they've inherited from many generations.

'The Only Way Is Essex' is a reality show and the cast are young people who are in the their early 20's - late 30's. They are slightly similar to the cast of Made in Chelsea but are more modern in terms of the way they act and dress, but they are located away from London which is where Made in Chelsea is filmed.

Geordie Shore is also another  reality TV show which has young people who are in their early 20's as the cast. They are from the northern region of England. The content on their show is not like the other shows as it is of sexual content, people getting drunk and sleeping  and breaking up with each other. The producers of the show portray the behaviour and lifestyles of the young people in the North in a different way compared to how they actually are in reality making people from other areas of the country and other countries believe this. The same goes for the other two shows.

Finally Big Brother is another reality show. It has a range of people who go in from people in their 20's, 30's, 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's and the people are from different areas of the country.

All of these TV shows don't fully represent the nation and region's identity in terms of the traditions, culture and language because the TV shows such as TOWIE and Made in Chelsea represent the rich, wealthy people and dramas represent the poor, working class people. E.g. EastEnders. These dramas are a more exaggerated version of how the working class live today. Overall the nation's identity is made up of all of these lifestyles.
