Manchester Arena bombing: fire service arrived two hours late, says report An image taken from the scene of police talking to the injured According to a report that was published in the news today, the fire service arrived 2 hours late to the scene of the Manchester Bombing Attack that took place last year in May. The Manchester Bombing Attack took place at the Manchester Arena after Ariana Grande performed to her fans as she was on tour. Many people were injured and around 22 people were killed including young children and teenagers. It has been said that, "The fire service decided to send in units only after a senior officer overheard a conversation at 00.15 on Tuesday in which he learned armed police had been deployed an hour and a half earlier to check the incident was not a marauding terror attack of the type seen in Paris. Fire officers later told Kerslake’s reviewers that had they been told this key information by police earlier they would have poten

Snapchat loses £650m after Rihanna condems firm for allowing ad 'shaming' domestic violence victims Earlier last week, the social media company snapchat have lost £650m after the singer Rihanna sued them for allowing an advert for the game 'would you rather' to 'shame' domestic violence victims. In the ad, it asks players of the game if they would like to either, 'Slap Rihanna' or ' Punch Chris Brown'. Players of the game/ members of the public, domestic violence victims and Rihanna would realise that these questions are referring to the incident that took place between Rihanna and Chris Brown in 2009, where he beat Rihanna up.  Rihanna responded on Thursday on her Instagram story saying snapchat was not her favourite app, and she was trying to figure out "what the point was with this mess." https://www.instagram.com/p/BgWVCp9hQpP/ - link to her response Her remark sent the share price value of Snapchat pare

Chris Brown Music Video - Tempo

Image
Chris Brown Music Video - Tempo Within this music video by Chris Brown, there are a range of Audio, Technical and Visual codes. For Audio Codes there is music - contrapuntal. In the music video, the music is contrapuntal (meaning the sound playing doesn't match what is happening in the video) for the words in the lyrics are different to the music video. The music also seems to distract the audience from watching the video. Towards the ending of the video at around 4:00, the music is lowered and we see the boy at the beginning of the video running after the 'gang' which gives us the idea that they want to recruit him to become a member of their team. By lowing the music it gives the audience the impression that there is going to be a happy ending. For Visual Codes there are the clothing worn by the dancers and singer, lighting, performance, Props, some use of camera movement and a range of camera shots. The dancers in the video are dressed up and using pr

WEEKLY NEWS 17: Africans at the Winter Olympics: Inspirational - or glory-hunters?

Image
Africans at the Winter Olympics: Inspirational - or glory-hunters? Last month (February), for two weeks, the winter Olympics has took place in South Korea. From the opening ceremony, we noticed something rather unusual, which was the handshake that took place between the sister of North Korea’s leader and the leader of South Korea, since the two sides of Korea have had a long, on-going war between each other. Even though they decided to be at peace for the sake of the Winter Olympic Games, some people might be feeling unsure if this will remain the same in the future.   However, this is not the main issue regarding the Games, for the issue has been turned into whether or not Olympians from Africa taking part in the winter games are seen as an inspiration for young Africans to look up to or if they are there to seek attention from the public based on ethnic differences between the Olympians who are usually known for taking part in the winter Olympic games and those w

Drake - God's Plan

Image
At the beginning of the video they state the budget that was to be spent during the video. When looking at Stuart Hall's Reception Theory about the way audiences interpret the codes placed in media products that have been produced by the producers, some people may agree that Drake is genuinely helping the people in the video (which are the preferred readers) although there are those who would think that stating the budget that was used in the video, would make it seem like the work being done is not genuine (oppositional readers). finally there are the negotiated readers who may agree that by donating money and items to the people is a good, charitable thing however seeing the budget and the credits at the beginning and end of the song may put them off for they may think the whole video was set up. Then they use people of different ages from young to old in a deprived area of the United States, to show that there is poverty amongst people living in the States other than t

Weekly news:what is the link between video games and aggression?

What is the link between violent video games and aggression? Content: The story is about the studies/research that have been carried out by many psychiatrists about the effects that video games can have upon children/teenagers and how they behave in society and what factors contribute to them behaving aggressively in society after playing video games. In 2013, a study that was published in the Journal of Experimental Social Psychology, shows that there was a link between playing violent video games and the side effects of playing video games when playing a competitive game. However, it also depends on the context in which these sort of games are played. In a study made by Seth Gitter and his colleagues published in Aggressive Behaviour (2013), it showed that if the participants were to play a violent video game with a positive goal in mind e.g. protecting a friend in a zombie video game, they showed reduced levels of aggressive behaviour as compared to those who were asked
