Panic and gunfire in US as truck strikes people   At least six people have been killed in a vehicle attack and shooting near the 9/11 memorial site in New York, according to Sky sources. Witnesses told local media a vehicle drove down a popular bike path and struck pedestrians and cyclists before the shooting started. Modest fashion: How covering up became mainstream https://www.msn.com/en-gb/lifestyle/style/modest-fashion-how-covering-up-became-mainstream/ar-AAtAEJ6?li=AA2FOLs&ocid=spartandhp In high street stores today there are wrist-length sleeves and high necks have appeared on dresses, hems are a little longer, and corsets are showcased beneath plain polo necks and crisp, white shirts on mannequins. And it’s all thanks to the rise of something called modest-wear. Modest-wear is clothing that conceals rather than accentuates the shape of the body. Recently, mainstream brands have found themselves playing catch-up to appeal to women who dress modestly for religious and cultural reasons, including Muslims, Jews and Christians. Reina Lewis, professor of cultural studies at the London College of Fashion and author of Muslim Fashion: Contemporary Style Cultures , has been studying modest looks since the mid-2000s. In the past two seasons in particular she has noticed modest fashi

Group Work

Our group’s campaign focuses on the struggle for black women to find products that actually work for their hair. We have noticed that a lot of well-known high street beauty stores such as Superdrug and Boots do not have much hair products which cater to black hair, but the ones they have are very expensive and well-known such as Shea Moisture and Cantu.   Most of the TV advertising campaigns that we see on TV are based on products that are not really specialised for black hair such as head and shoulders and L’Oréal.   So, we would like to design a product which is specially made for black women at a cheaper price and to be sold in both hair shops (which sell black hair products already) and high street beauty stores. Our target audience black women of all ages from the young to the elderly. The product will be placed at a reasonable price so people who cannot afford the most expensive products can purchase this as it does similar things for the hair just like all the ot

'Pray for Mogadishu' is not trending, but Somalis are mobilising                             What usually happens on social media after a terrorist attack? A hashtag circulates beginning with "Pray for..." or "I am...". Users share images of the carnage, and people express an equal measure of sadness and defiance. But after the deadly attacks on Saturday 14th October 2017 in Mogadishu, which claimed at least 281 lives, some social media users have been asking where the solidarity for Somalia is, and why there are no trending hashtags like those which have emerged after attacks in the US and Europe. Saturday's truck bomb was the deadliest terror attack in Somalia since the Islamist al-Shabab group launched its insurgency in 2007. Heart breaking stories like this are not dissimilar to those shared after violent attacks and natural disasters around the world when people lose their lives. The have made many TV Advertising Campaigns and one that I am focusing on is called "Barnardos: the row". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HGnOxsrO7rI At the beginning there is a narrator and they have a sort of low tone which makes the audience immediately start to feel pitiful for the child. Then the child appears to be in a kitchen and colouring in his book. The narrator then talks about the arguments and fights that take place with a shadow in the background of one of the parents and just the narrator says this, the voices of the parents arguing in the background is being projected quite loud and as this is being done the child makes the action of being scared. By the director of the campaign doing this, they are trying to put the audience in the position of the child as well as trying to get them to feel sort of sorry for the child.   The narrator contin

Encoding and Decoding

Image
Encoding and Decoding Encoding and Decoding Theory was developed by a man called Stuart Hall. The encoding-decoding theory suggests that the audience derive their own meaning from media texts. The Encoding / Decoding Theory is a theory of communication which suggests audiences actively read media texts and don’t just accept them passively. They interpret the media text according to their own cultural background and experiences. In his Encoding / Decoding theory, Hall suggested that media texts are read in three main ways. A dominant or preferred reading of the text is the way that its creators want an audience to understand and respond to it. An oppositional reading of the text is when an audience completely rejects the message. A negotiated reading is when the audience interprets the text in their own unique way, which might not be the way its producer intended. http://www.mediaknite.org/encoding-decoding/

Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs

Image
Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs Maslow's hierarchy of needs is a theory in Psychology that was proposed by Abraham Maslow. The hierarchy is made up of 5 essential needs that humans need. They are: Physiological needs, safety, love, esteem and self- actualization. The physiological needs are things like: food, water, warmth, shelter and rest which are provided by our families. Safety for an individual involves security and protection. Love for individual is the relationships they have with others, so they could be friendships, intimate relationships or love from their families. Before making it to self-actualisation, an individual needs esteem. With esteem, the individual will feel a sense of accomplishment. Finally there is self-actualisation. Self-actualisation is when an individual achieves something. e.g. becoming a millionaire or going to university. The physiological needs and safety are the basic needs an individual requires, then love and esteem are ps

With Cross platform advertising, everyone from all ages will receive information, whether they are elderly or teenagers, adults and kids. "Nowadays, single platform campaigns are slowly disappearing. Advertisers have recognized the advantages of new technologies and are starting to implement them into their traditional TV, radio and print advertising campaigns. Today, more potential customers spend time on the Internet and social media than watching TV or listening to the radio." Advantages of Cross Platform Advertising Services such

How shot types and angles create meaning

How shot types and angles create meaning In the film industry different shot sizes are used to get reactions from the audience watching/ viewing the work. From the audience's reactions, the director, producer and all the other crew can decide whether the film should be released or if more editing needs to be done.
